Transportation, Directions, and Parking

The center is accessible via rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.), taxi, or Metro. Transportation assistance is available upon request. Please email [email protected] for additional information.

Directions From Rideshare/Taxi: When booking a rideshare or taxi, please use the address for Douglass Hall: 2441 6th Street NW, Washington, DC 20059. Your rideshare or taxi may drop you off at either Gate 1 or Gate 2 on 6th Street, on either side of Douglass Hall (circled in yellow on the map).

From Gate 1 (in blue on the map), walk into campus and veer left to the quad. From Gate 2 (in red on the map), walk into campus and veer right to the quad. At the center of the quad, continue straight to the Armour J. Blackburn University Center (across the quad from Douglass Hall).

Directions From Metro: Take the Green/Yellow line to Shaw-Howard University Station. You can plan your trip and check Metro fares on the WMATA website. Please note that first-time Metro riders will need to make a one-time purchase of $10 for a SmarTrip card ($2 for the card, $8 stored value). Shaw-Howard University Station is 0.8 miles from the Armour J. Blackburn University Center, about a 20-minute walk.

To walk from the Metro, exit the station at the northeast corner of 7th St NW and S St NW. Head north on 7th St NW toward T St NW and continue straight. At Florida Ave NW, 7th St NW will turn into Georgia Ave NW. Continue straight on Georgia Ave NW for about 0.4 miles, then turn right on Howard Pl NW. You will see the Howard University Main Gate at Howard Pl NW and 6th St NW. Enter the university through the Main Gate, then veer left through the quad or on the sidewalk until you see the Armour J. Blackburn University Center at the far corner of the quad (next to Alain Locke Hall and across the quad from Douglass Hall).

Parking

Limited parking is available for $10 per day at the South Banneker Parking Lot. The lot is located at 2345 Sherman Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001, about a 9-minute walk from the Armour J. Blackburn University Center. Guests parking in this lot must pay via the RunParking app or website. RunParking will require guests to input vehicle information like the make and model of their car into their account. Since parking space is limited, we recommend guests create an account and make a reservation in advance to ensure their spot is reserved. Follow these steps to book a parking reservation:

1. Type “South Banneker Parking Lot” into the search bar of the RunParking app or website.
2. Ensure search results are sorted by “Closest” rather than “Cheapest.” The first result should show the location at 2345 Sherman Ave NW.
3. Click “Book Now.”
4. Follow the prompts to sign in and input all necessary information, including payment information for the $10 flat fee.

To walk to the Armour J. Blackburn University Center from the parking lot, exit the lot on the 9th St NW side. Walk straight toward Georgia Ave NW between the Banneker Tennis Courts and Maury Wills Field. Cross Georgia Ave NW and continue straight on Howard Pl NW until you see the Howard University Main Gate at Howard Pl NW and 6th St NW.
